Cancer Ecology

The evolutionary biologist Theodosius Dobzhansky said in 1973: "Nothing in Biology Makes Sense Except in the Light of Evolution". Evolution only makes sense in the light of ecology! Natural selection is a product of adaptation of environmental stresses. Cancer mutates and evolves as a result of mutations resulting from genetic instability as well as mutations in response to the tumor microenvironment. To understand how cancer evolves in the context of patients, we have formed the Cancer Ecology Center at the Brady Urological Institute at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
